The business location above can be found somewhere within the city limits of Trenton. Do you think you know what it is? If you do, please email your answer to info@trentontrib.com (Please do not use comments for your answer!). All correct answers will be entered into a random drawing. The winner will receive a $25 TV’s Deli Diner gift card. The entry deadline is 9 a.m. May 15.

Last month’s Mystery Location was the Round House BBQ restaurant at the corner of West Road and West Jefferson.  Nicole Martyniak’s name was chosen in a random drawing of all those who submitted the correct answer. Last year’s Mystery Location emphasized city landmarks, this year we will be featuring the office and store locations of our advertisers.

Maggie

To the Editor:  Being a cute pet does not come easy for most, and Maggie is no exception. In Maggie’s case, she spends a solid 18 hours napping on her couch. When awake, she obsessively cleans her paws to ensure her nails remain untarnished from her unfortunate, but requisite, visits to the backyard. Ahh, but this daily ritual of sleep and grooming is merely preparation for the “barking hour” when she duly stands patrol on her chair, sending a high pitched reminder to all that walk by, that this is indeed the residence of the cutest pet in Trenton.

ATTENTON PET OWNERS!!

We are looking for submissions for our 2012 Cutest Pet contests. Exotic pets and other caged critters are welcome, too! Please send your high resolution jpeg picture to info@trentontrib.com, or drop off your picture at our office Tuesdays or Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Include your name, the pet’s name and tell us in 100 words or less why you think they are Trenton’s Cutest pet. All pets featured from January- December will be entered into our Facebook Cutest Pet Contest and the winner will get a great prize and a photo shoot for the January 2013 edition.

‘Good Neighbor’ honoree enjoys helping others

We spotted Ted Hageman at this year’s City Awards Banquet, where he was presented the Good Neighbor Award. Marie Bingham, his neighbor for 44 years, nominated him for all he does for her, including shoveling her walk in the winter and cleaning her windows in the spring! His name is often brought up around town as he also won the Dwayne Brannick Award for outstanding service to the community three years ago and is involved with many groups and causes. The Community Shred is set to return for fourth consecutive year from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in the parking lot in front of the Kennedy Recreation Center.

This year’s event has a little different twist, though, because the sponsors are teaming up with Wayne County to also provide residents an opportunity to drop off old tires and electronic equipment. That drop-off will be open from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Just like the past three years, the sponsors said, the primary focus is to provide people with a safe and secure way to dispose of old documents. Shred-it mobile shredding company will be on site to oversee that process. Continue reading

The end of March and first part of April proved to be quite a rewarding and successful time for the team of 14 Rotarians, friends and medical professionals who traveled to an impoverished region of northwest Nicaragua to provide much-needed podiatric and dental care.

A podiatric surgery group, headed by Dr. Vicki Anton-Athens and also including Dr. James Hill, Dr. Chris Olenech, and a team of nurses and volunteers, joined a dental group that included Dr. Richard Nykiel, Dr. Noel Jackson, and Dr. Charles Zammit in making the trip down to Betania Village in Nicaragua for a week to help people who otherwise would not have access to treatment.

This was the group’s third trip down to Nicaragua. Nykiel and Jackson are both Trenton residents and members of Trenton Rotary Club.

Nykiel explained that Rotary used to send a medical team to Haiti until the earthquake hit just before the trip three years ago, which made the country too dangerous and virtually inaccessible for a time. Consequently, they adjusted their plans to provide help to another region in serious need of professional medical care. Continue reading
