In 1996, Kim Mott opened Colors by Kim with just a stylist friend and a smile. In 1998 the salon moved to its current location on 3259 West Road.
In 2006 the salon completed its first remodel. Now, with 26 employees, Mott has expanded, incorporating the space from a vacant lease unit next door.
“We have experienced about a 10 percent growth in the past few years and basically we just needed more space,” Mott said.
Colors by Kim decided to remodel last fall and enlisted the help of Trenton architect Bob Howey and a Salon Centra mentor to create the plan and design their additional salon space.
“It was also important that we use local contractors,” Mott said. “You’ll notice our flooring by Carpet Town and décor by local providers.”
The result was a brand new couples massage room, a large, serene waiting room, two new wash basins, a new pedicure room designed for two, a facial/makeup area, 15 stations offering more privacy to clients, additional room for products such as new featured chromatics hair color that has no ammonia and Mott’s favorite new spot is the extensive coffee bar that guests may help themselves to.
Mott is planning to hold an open house at the salon sometime this spring and the salon is celebrating its new digs by treating new customers to a half-off haircut during “new talent night” on Fridays.
