Great selection and service are the keys to success for Casa Del Vino
By Terey DeLisle
From its unassuming outside appearance, Casa Del Vino in Trenton may look like just another liquor store. Once inside, as you are greeted by the huge selection and friendly staff, you realize it’s more than it seems.
Since 1993, Trenton has had its own wine and spirits expert in owner Ronnie Barkho, whose passion for the business is immediately apparent when he talks about the shop. He said the store boasts the largest wine, beer and liquor selection and best prices in the metro area.
The shop carries more than 1,000 wines, from inexpensive everyday wines to high-end wines you won’t find anywhere else nearby.
For the beer enthusiast, there is an abundant assortment to choose from that ranges from mainstream brands to microbrews from all over the country and the world. The selection includes many Michigan brands such as Bell’s, Arcadia, and Founders. You will also find single bottles of microbrew beers so you can create your own package and try a variety.
There is also a wide selection of liquors, including a large display of single-malt scotches, numerous varieties of vodkas and tequilas, and shelves of gift sets.
It may be hard to believe that such a relatively small space holds the vast inventory found here. Barkho says that because he concentrates on selling almost exclusively beer, wine and liquor, the shelves are not taken up by other items.
Such an extensive selection may seem intimidating, but Barkho trains his staff to be as knowledgeable as he is about the stock. If you’re having a dinner party or just want to try something new, Barkho and his staff will lend their expertise to help you find the perfect libation for your needs.
The store also features a large walk-in humidor holding an array of fine cigars, about which the staff is also able to give expert advice.
Barkho says that the selection and service are what makes Casa Del Vino stand out from the crowd. “If it’s new on the market, you are going to find it here. If you want something that is available in Michigan that we don’t have we will order it for you.” He adds that in most cases, he carries what people are looking for.
Although Barkho, a former chemist, lives in Northville, he opened up shop in Trenton, he said, because “I liked the area and the people. When you are comfortable with where you are, makes all the difference.”
Casa Del Vino has a loyal base of customers who are glad he did. Janis McSweeney of Trenton has shopped there for years.
“I appreciate the service they offer,” McSweeney said. “When you enter their store you are always greeted, and asked if you need help. I have gone there for special gifts for microbrew fans and have always found unique items. One of my husband’s favorites is from Atwater Brewery, and it is very convenient to stop there close to home rather than to drive to Detroit to get it!”
“I love the selection, especially the little bottles of liquor that are hard to find anywhere else,” said Dolly Allen of Brownstown. “I like to shop there for gifts. Also, when I need help finding what I am looking for. The staff is always helpful and knows exactly what I need!”
Casa Del Vino is located at 1871 King Road. The phone number is (734) 692-3564, or you can email the owner at casa-del-vino@sbcglobal.net. The hours are daily 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 12-7 p.m. Sundays.
