This month’s Interesting Neighbor is a very “active” resident who can often be seen out walking or riding her bike, or, just recently, welcoming people to get to know her at her booth display at Trenton Summer Festival. After recently retiring from a 32-year career in the insurance business, Kathleen Paulbeck’s love of fitness inspired her to start a new business aimed at helping people achieve personal well being.
KK: When did you move to Trenton?
Kathleen Paulbeck: I moved to Trenton in the summer of 2010. Coming to Trenton was a great experience to show my younger daughter what fun a small-town city was all about. There are so many community activities to get involved in, that it allowed us to fit right in. Family was why I came to Trenton. Upon getting married in the summer of 2010 to Robert D. Paulbeck, I moved to Trenton and together we began the journey of building our family with Katie, Colin and Danielle. We are very proud of each of our kids, as they have been very successful in the directions they have chosen. We feel we’ve been blessed in so many ways with each of them, including the honor of being grandparents.
KK: Why do you like living here?
Paulbeck: I really enjoy living in Trenton for the warmth of the small hometown feel. I have met so many great enthusiastic people, that they have all motivated me in so many ways — the countless activities that occur at Elizabeth Park, the family festivals, parades, and all the small businesses that are owned by residents of Trenton. It has inspired me to be confident that I too, can run a successful business.
KK: Tell us about your hobbies and other activities you participate in.
Paulbeck: Being active is what keeps my marriage fun and exciting. Bob has taught me to run, hike, backpack, and ski. By adding these to the activities of walking, camping and biking that I already enjoyed, we keep active year-round. Our daily workouts, whether we knock them out together or separate, keeps us both in shape to keep up with our kids, and enjoy all the same fun things that they are doing. Family vacations will usually include a backpacking hike, ski trip, or a camping trip. I also enjoy cooking, time with my family and girlfriends, and watching the early morning sunrises by the water.
KK: What is something most people would not know about you?
Paulbeck: I recently retired from AAA Michigan, after 32 years of service. I’m now extremely excited to be working as a professional coach, after finding my passion in coaching back in 2013. I also completed the Detroit marathon race of 26.2 miles, running it in five hours, two minutes back in 2011, after learning to run in 2008, one block at a time. This is proof you can do anything you put your mind to.
My business goals are to continue growing Sure to Inspire Coaching, LLC. Professional coaching is a new and exciting way to support clients in reaching their personal goals. Everyone has dreams and personal goals that are right there in front of them, yet most people never grasp and run with them. I want to encourage and excite people that they truly can have everything they dream of. Nothing is impossible to achieve if you have a plan and the steps are in place. As your coach, together we will discover what truly gets you excited and create a plan to begin putting the pieces into action for reaching your goal. We’ll walk through each of the steps that you have chosen, so that you clearly understand why it’s important. By the end of each session, you’ll have an action plan you’ll be ready to take. I will challenge you with steps that will keep you motivated and on track to reaching your goal. We’ll also discover the roadblocks, the emotions and what’s truly getting in the way of you reaching your goal. Upon discovering the roadblocks, together we’ll work through them, allowing you to decide how to resolve it. Facing roadblocks head on truly gives my clients the choice of deciding which direction they want their life to go in. KK: What would your neighbors say about you?
Paulbeck: I’ve come to know many great neighbors, and I hope that my walking buddies might say that I can keep up with the fast and amazing pace that they have us walking to. These two great ladies walk a mean-pace at 6:30 a.m. Walking with them always starts my day out right!
