The big weekend begins Thursday, Dec. 1, with an opening game, and then a baker’s dozen of games on Friday, Dec. 2 — followed by 30 more round-robin games Saturday, Dec. 3.

International Sliver Stick Hockey was the brainchild of Jack Kinsella in 1956, and the tournament philosophy was aimed at helping develop “Citizenship and International Goodwill Through Hockey.”

“We hope to continue that (Silver Stick) tradition in our own hockey hometown in December,” said Jim Bazner, president of the Trenton Hockey Association.

This is the second time Trenton has hosted this prestigious tournament. The closest venue previously was Midland, which played host to the “B” divisions.

This event marks the Trenton Association’s 51st year and after 40 years of hosting an annual Trenton Invitational. Bazner said this regional “B” level tournament is a welcomed, enhanced event that will bring additional revenues to the city and area businesses. Divisional winners will advance to the finals in Pelham, Ontario.

Sunday morning will feature the semifinal games and the four divisional finals will be held Sunday afternoon. All divisions are full and a total of 60 games will be packed into a great weekend. Tournament officials said the Website will be updated continually as the team’s progress and detailed schedules are available at www.trenton-silverstick.org

                Teams include:

Mite B Division: Berkley DYHA Bruins, Garden City Stars, Orchard Lake Pirates, Grosse Ile Islanders, North Olmsted Eagles, Troy Sabers, Wyandotte Warriors, Mt. Clemens

Squirt B Division:  Canton Flyers, Grosse Ile Islanders, Novi Predators, Summit Ice Dogs, Trenton Titans, Wyandotte Warriors

PeeWee B Division: Dearborn Blues, Grosse Ile Islanders, Rochester Vipers, SCS Penguins, Southgate Senators, Summit Northstars, Trenton Lightning, Bay County

Bantam B Division: Fraser Bruins, Livonia Blues, Mount Clemens, Novi Cougars, SCS Bruins, Southgate Senators, Trenton Lightning, Wyandotte Warriors

“We are honored to be able to host this event Downriver and we welcome all the teams to Trenton in December and strive for continued citizenship and international goodwill now and in the years to come,” tournament director Gary Durbin said.
