A night of improvisation and a gripping thriller will take the stage at Open Book Theatre Company on Friday, Jan. 6. The show will be hosted by Jaclynn Cherry and Sean Paraventi, two actors who have worked numerous times with Open Book and are well known throughout Detroit for their work in the improv community, most notably with Comedy Sportz and the Planet Ant.
The night will include other special guests and an opportunity for audience participation. The event is family friendly and fun for all ages. All tickets to this fundraising event are $25, and the proceeds will go to the Capital Campaign for the renovations on the building and to support the ambitious five show season Open Book is producing in their new home.
Then for three weekends, January 13-28, a gripping thriller will take the stage. Boy Gets Girl is in the same vein as recent hit books/movies Gone Girl and Girl on the Train. Open Book Artistic Director Krista Ewbank is featured as Theresa, who goes on an awkward blind date with Tony (Todd St George). Theresa sees no reason to continue the relationship, but Tony thinks otherwise. Theresa’s strength and independence begin to unravel as Tony continues to refuse to take no for an answer.
Performance dates and times for Boy Gets Girl are Friday (opening night with afterglow) and Saturday, Jan. 13-14, at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21, at 8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. (followed by a discussion with the artists), Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-28, at 8 p.m.
Opening night tickets include an after party, and are $30 each. Tickets for all other performances are $20 or $15 for students and seniors.
Group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more, at a discount of $3 off each ticket.
